Research in emergency medicine at Alfred Health encompasses the whole breadth of medicine relevant to acute health problems.
At the pre-hospital level we are partnering with pre-hospital services in Victoria (Ambulance Victoria) as well as pre-hospital services across Australia and New Zealand. The focus is on illness prevention, with particular emphasis on injury prevention, to pre-hospital care, so that patients can be provided the best possible care at the earliest possible time.
In-hospital research is focused on the reception and resuscitation of acutely ill patients that present to our Emergency Departments; specifically, how care received in this acute phase translates to health outcomes for patients on discharge from hospital and beyond.
Following their discharge from hospital, we are continually studying the functional outcomes of patients and effective ways to maintain wellness in the community and prevent hospitalisations.
